2009-2015: A few facts and thoughts about Air

Postby Antoine » Fri Jan 30, 2015 10:00 pm

Oct. 2009 : Love 2 is released (last proper studio album IMHO).

2010 : On Tour
Spent most of the year touring.
Saw them live twice during that year.
Were they already working on "Le voyage… " by the end of 2010?

Spring 2011 : Le voyage dans la lune (getting ready for Cannes Film Festival)...
Everyone thinks this was recorded/released back in 2012. But the music to "Le voyage…" was already recorded in
early 2011! As it did premiere the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in May.

Feb. 2012 : Le voyage dans la lune is officially released.

2013 : Tomorrow’s World debut album (JB’s side project with singer Lou Hayter).
I guess T’sW also toured a little bit (especially during Summer time).
JB and Nico back to work; recording the music to the obscure Norwegian movie “Pioneer”.
Did this movie hit the cinemas around the world? I have never seen a release of this. Neither on DVD, nor on
CD regarding the soundtrack. This remains a mystery. The same thing happened with "Quartier Lointain" a few years ago. Happens very often with Air, I'm afraid.

2014: Starwalker’s debut ep (JB’s side project with Bardi Johansson) and solo track Blue Hawaï are
released.
Music for Museum: About 9 tracks released for Le Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lille, France. Exhibition
held in Lille from April to August as far as I can remember. The music was released on vinyl only and few
copies were available for sale (on-line or at the shop museum).
In September, some rumours about Contrepoint (Nico’s first solo album).
JB Dunckel, also part of a project called Pepper Island - Motor Love). For further information, see the link: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8227

2015: What can we expect?

Darkel?
T’sW?
Starwalker?
Nico’s first solo album?
Air? (team up again or split?)
More fashion weeks attendance?

Any thoughts or comments?

Anything can happen! I don't care much for a new Air album. I would love to hear some new music from Air, if Air manage to find again their edge.

Looking back, I think Air's discography is untouchable from the beginning to 2004. From 2005 to nowadays, that's Air being a posh band, recording music in their posh studio. There are some of Air's finest tunes on 5:55, Pocket Symphony and Love 2, there is nothing shameful about these records, but the truth is that they are not very inspired. They lost their edge, there is too much comfort in most of these songs.

Darkel was a nice little record. Tomorrow's World is a caricature of a JB solo album. I'm pretty sure he worked with this singer just to bang her (I'm sorry, it's harsh, but what is her input on this album? and we all know that all JB is interrested in is sex).

On the other hand, Music for Museum is what is giving me hope for a new Air record. Should they leave their comfort zone, it seems like they have it in them to put out some great record. Music for Museum is hands down what they've recorded best in ten years.

Abomination indeed. And I do weigh my words. Mind you, I remembered talking to JB about this soundtrack after a gig around 2010.
He told me: "Save your money. Don't watch this movie!"
The soundtrack is unbearable.

Thanks for your comments anyway!
