Schiaparelli

Maison Schiaparelli presented some days ago in Paris its spring 2015 haute couture show, the first after the departure of creative director Marco Zanini. Zanini, who was commissioned to update the historic house that was revived after 60 years of inactivity by Italian entrepreneur Diego Della Valle, lasted only two seasons in Schiaparelli. The brand’s in-house team took the reins this season, showing a coherent collection, in spite of the lack of a creative director. Inspired by Schiaparelli’s love affair with art that brought her to collaborate with artists of the likes of Jean Cocteau and Salvador Dali, the spring 2015 couture collection, titled “Les reflets d’Elsa”, added a touch of a fresh air to the house’s rich heritage. Every Schiaparelli hit was there, from the Cupid-pierced hearts and the surreal prints to the luxury materials and the exaggerated volumes. The collection included impressive silk gowns with sophisticated embroideries, sharp-tailored trouser suits, bold cropped tops, printed midi dresses and a series of flamboyant hats, including an oversized Moroccan fez, made by renowned milliner Stephen Jones.

Paying homage to Schiaparelli’s exuberant fashion shows that often included performance-like interventions, brand ambassador Farida Khelfa asked iconic photographer, illustrator and advertising film director Jean-Paul Goude to design the show’s set. Goude prepared a sound and vision spectacle with striking pink as the main protagonist. 15 teenage member of the Les Chérubins choir appeared from some specially designed windows and sang to an Angelique Kidjo’s remix of Ravel’s Bolero that was recorded with the help of AIR’s Nicolas Godin. Their intervention added a special touch to the runway show, creating a haunting atmosphere that made the spectators, among them Carla Bruni, shiver from excitement. We may not know whether Della Valle will appoint soon a new creative director for the house, but judging from the excellent team work and the meticulous attention to detail hidden behind this season’s show, one thing is for sure: Schiaparelli’s future looks as promising as ever.

(Irony alert!)
It's great to see that Nicolas still knows where his priorities are.
